Tip Calculator
Enter the bill, pick a tip rate and split between any number of people — every figure updates as you type.
How much should I tip?
In the United States, 15–20% of the pre-tax bill is standard for restaurant table service, with 20% or more for excellent service. Many other countries expect less or nothing at all: across most of Europe a 5–10% round-up is appreciated, in Japan tipping can be seen as rude, and in the UK a 10–12.5% service charge is often already included — check the bill first.
Frequently asked questions
Tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Etiquette guides usually suggest tipping on the pre-tax total, but most people simply tip on the final number for convenience. Either approach is fine — this calculator works with whichever figure you enter.
Does the calculator round?
Results are shown to the cent. Rounding up per person is a common way to keep things simple — the per-person figure makes that easy to do mentally.
