How discounts stack
When a store offers “extra 10% off already-reduced items”, the second percentage applies to the reduced price, not the original. A $100 item at 30% off becomes $70, and an extra 10% comes off the $70 — a final price of $63. The effective discount is 37%, not 40%. The optional second field above handles exactly this, showing you the true combined rate.
Frequently asked questions
Is 50% off twice the same as 100% off?
No — and this trips up a lot of shoppers. Two successive 50% discounts give 75% off in total: the second 50% applies to the already-halved price. Use the second field to check any stacked offer.
Can I compare “30% off” versus “$20 off”?
Yes, indirectly: enter 30% and read the “You save” amount, then compare it with the flat $20. Whichever discount saves more wins.
