How much smaller will my image get?
Most photos taken with a phone can shrink by 60–90% at 80% quality with no visible difference. Screenshots and graphics with sharp edges compress better as PNG→WebP. Start at 80%, then adjust: if artifacts appear, raise the quality; if the file is still too big, lower it. The comparison preview lets you judge before downloading.
Which format should I pick?
Auto handles it for you: photos become JPEG, PNG graphics become WebP (which supports transparency and is much smaller). Choosing WebP manually gives the smallest files and is supported by every modern browser.

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The image is opened, compressed and previewed entirely inside your browser using the HTML canvas. Nothing is transmitted — you can even use this tool offline once the page has loaded.
Why did my PNG get bigger as JPEG?
JPEG is designed for photographs. Graphics with flat colors and sharp text compress poorly as JPEG — choose WebP instead, or keep PNG if you need lossless quality.
Does compressing reduce image dimensions?
No — width and height stay exactly the same. Only the file size shrinks, by storing the picture more efficiently. If you need smaller dimensions too, a resize tool is coming soon.
